Waking up this morning was hard. Not only because I was tired, but because a year ago from today I lost someone very special, my aunt. My aunt was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in September of 2011. She lost her battle to survive on February 21st, 2012. I saw her struggle to take last breath, ending her pain and suffering. Although I’m happy she’s not struggling anymore, I miss her. I miss her. She was the type of aunt you would consider ‘the cool aunt,’ but she wouldn’t take your shit. We always joked around. Once I said she was my mom in public. She got so mad, it was an insult to even mention her age. So she said burned me back by saying shed never have such a perverted daughter. We couldn’t stop laughing. It’s those precious moments I have with her that keep running through my head. There isn’t a day that passes that I don’t think of her. She was so beautiful; Her huge, brown eyes, with the long, thick eyelashes I used to envy. Her smile and laughter. Her charisma and voice. I hope one day I see her again. It’s that hope I cling on to, with all of my being. The pain of losing someone is inexplicable and unimaginable. It tears through your heart, your soul. You’re stripped down to your core, left vulnerable. But it’s nothing compared to the promised eternity I will spend with her and the rest of my loved ones. I will miss you Tia, with every cell on my body, every single day of the rest of my life until we are reunited once again. I love you today and forever.
